Dear Synology users,

It’s been long anything way posted here. Sorry for that. I was mostly busy here: https://github.com/SynoCommunity/spksrc. This effort was initiated a few weeks ago by Diaoul, pressing me to publish the way I was building my SPK. This GitHub project is a framework to easily build SPK from source code in a reproducible manner. As of this writing, most of my current SPK are integrated to spksrc.

The SPK are now available here: http://synopkg.superzebulon.org/spkrepo/packages. DSM 3.2 users can copy paste this URL directly in their Package Center -> Settings -> Package Sources. A new tab will appear in the Package Center window named Other Sources showing the packages available for their NAS model. Installed package may also have a new Update button. Go there from time to time to check for updates.

SPK available:

Transmission 2.42

Python 2.6.6

SABnzbd 0.6.10

Couch Potato

Headphones

Sick Beard

For now, only the software version were updated. I have to go through the different bug reports and try to fix the reported issues.

Happy installation.

EDIT: Ok, its not working now. Let me check.
EDIT 2: Ok, it’s fixed. Stupid me, sorry for the wrong announcement. Thanks to all of you for your quick tests.
EDIT 3: Transmission shall be fixed now, simply update your current installation. It is now 2.42-2.

This is SABnzbd 0.6.9 for the Synology NAS. It is packed as an spk for easy installation.

Changes:

(0.6.9 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.9.

(0.6.9 1) Add icon for DSM 3.2.

(0.6.8 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.8.

(0.6.7 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.7.

(0.6.6 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.6.

(0.6.5 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.5.

(0.6.4 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.4.

(0.6.2 1) The DSM icon was only visible to the admin of the NAS. Now it shall be visible to every users.

(0.6.2 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.2.

(0.6.1 2) Fix the post processing issue where the python executable was no found. This is done by adding the path to Python in PATH when launching SABnzbd.

(0.6.1 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.1. See the release note (not updated) for the details.

(0.6.1 1) Don’t embed Python, use the Python spk instead.

(0.6.1 1) Add the web UI port to the DSM Package Manager interface. It will get updated if it is changed in the application.

(0.5.6 p1) par2 fixes. I had some errors on some valid files, and applied part the patches from Ubuntu. Detailed list on demand.

(0.5.6 p1) Better handling of the web UI address (i.e. port number). The DSM icon will correctly take you to the application, even if you change the port number. The address is no more shown in the Package Management interface, as this information is static.

(0.5.6 p1) Improvements in the start / stop script, and to the installation scripts as well.

(0.5.6 p1) Removal of some unused part (like pgrep).

The package is available here. See the Small SABnzbd spk Manual for installation instructions and more.

This spk requires my Python spk to work correctly. The dependency will be checked at the installation time, and you will be redirected to the download page if it is missing. You must install at least version 2.6.6 4.

Tested with DSM 3.2 1922, on a DS408 and a DS210j. Not tested on DSM 3.1 or older, but it should work. Please report success and failure, as you always do. The upgrade from any previous version of my SABnzbd spk should be seamless.

The package is about 1.8MB, and the install size is 8MB. It will grow to 10MB at the first start (python compiled files), and more due to cache files and logs. All is cleanly removed when the package is removed.

The package is compressed using xz, and supports all the NAS supported by Python spk, i.e. all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series.

Build with SABnzbd 0.6.9 src, coreutils 8.9 src for nice, par2cmdline 0.4 src with some of the Ubuntu patches, and util linux ng 2.18 src for ionice. No changes were made to the source code, only usual build configuration. Specific scripts to the Synology DSM were also added.

As always, comments and remarks welcome, enjoy!

This is SickBeard 3.0 spk. It will bring a nice icon for DSM 3.2 users, and change the way the installation is done: this spk does not include SickBeard any more, it will be downloaded from GitHub when you install it. That means that you will have an up to date version, whenever you install it. Download here.

It addresses the following issues:

(3.0) Add icon for DSM3.2 users.

(3.0) Don’t include the source code of SickBeard, but download it from GitHub at installation time.

(3.0) When upgrading the spk, clean up the update history file to enforce an application upgrade.

(2.0) Don’t rely on the SABnzbd spk to provide the Python environment, use the Python spk instead.

(2.0) As a consequence of the above point, SickBeard now runs with its own user on the NAS. It was previously using the sabnzbd user. This may produce some error when changing the access permission (Failed to set permission for … to 666) but this is harmless, as the permission bits ar already ok. I will try to submit a patch to SickBeard to fix this.

(2.0) Clear the stale PID file when SickBeard is shutdown the hard way. Reported by many on SickBeard 1.1 spk.

(1.1) The port number is 8081. No change in the spk, just a few word here as this information was missing. Thanks Morten for reporting this on CouchPotato.

(1.1) Ensure that the PATH environment variable contains standard synology path only, and no any 3rd party directories like ipkg. Reported by Diaoul on CouchPotato, thanks.

(1.1) Make the DSM icon available for every user, not only the admin. Reported by kauhl on transmission 2.30b1, but it affects all my packages.

(1.1) If SABnzbd is not configured, go on without connecting SB to SAB. If you later wish to use SABnzbd as a downloader for SB, you will need to setup it by hand, or do a full reinstall of the SB spk.

(1.1) Add the web UI port to the DSM Package Manager interface. It will get updated if changed if the in the application.

(1.1) As the first start may take some time, give it more time to start before reporting an error.

This spk requires my Python spk to work correctly. The dependency will be checked at the installation time, and you will be redirected to the download page if it is missing. You must install at least version 2.6.6 1.

Tested with DSM 3.2 1922, on a DS408 and a DS210j. Not tested on DSM 3.1 or older, but it should work. Please report success and failure, as you always do.

The package is about 40kB, it will download 2MB from GitHub, and install 6.5MB on your NAS. It will grow to 11MB at the first start (python compiled files), and more due to cache files and logs. All is cleanly removed when the package is removed.

The package is compressed using xz, and supports all the NAS supported by Python spk, i.e. all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series. No changes were made to the source code. Specific scripts to the Synology DSM were also added.

The package is 50kB, it will download 1MB from GitHub, and install 4MB on your NAS. It will grow to 6MB at the first start (python compiled files), and more due to cache files and logs. All is cleanly removed when the package is removed.

The package is compressed using xz, and supports all the NAS supported by Python spk, i.e. all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series. No changes were made to the source code. Specific scripts to the Synology DSM were added.

DSM3.2 has arrived, and a round of SPK update follows!

This is CouchPotato 3.0 spk. It will bring a nice icon for DSM 3.2 users, and change the way the installation is done: this spk does not include CouchPotato any more, it will be downloaded from GitHub when you install it. That means that you will have an up to date version, whenever you install it. Download here.

It addresses the following issues:

(3.0) Add icon for DSM3.2 users.

(3.0) Don’t include the source code of Couch Potato, but download it from GitHub at installation time.

(2.1) When upgrading the spk, clean up the update history file to enforce an application upgrade.

(2.0) Don’t rely on the SABnzbd spk to provide the Python environment, use the Python spk instead.

(1.2) If SABnzbd is not configured, go on without connecting CP to SAB. If you later wish to use SABnzbd as a downloader for CP, you will need to setup it by hand, or do a full reinstall of CP.

(1.2) Add the web UI port to the DSM Package Manager interface. It will get updated if changed if the in the application.

(1.2) As the first start may take some time, give it more time to start before reporting an error.

(1.1) The port number is 8082, as 5000 (the default port number of CP) is already used by the DSM interface. No change in the spk, just a few word here as this information was missing. Thanks Morten for reporting this.

(1.1) Ensure that the PATH environment variable contains standard synology path only, and no any 3rd party directories like ipkg. Reported by Diaoul, thanks.

(1.1) Correct log file path to correctly display it in the DSM interface. Reported by Diaoul, thanks again.

(1.1) Make the DSM icon available for every user, not only the admin. Reported by kauhl on transmission 2.30b1, but it affects all my packages.

This package contains Python 2.6.6 for the Synology NAS. It is the same version of Python than in the previous package, with various fixes:

Import issues, seen in Sickbeard. Some shared libraries where not found, due to some missing references to the lib directory (-rpath link flag was missing).

Encoding issues reported for a while by some French users (mainly). The file system encoding is now forced to utf-8, thanks to Diaoul for pointing out the issue and proposing a fix.

Python 2.6.6 4 is available here. You are strongly invited to upgrade, as it fix some import issues.

It does not provide any user service by itself (it can’t be run, starting it from the DSM console will always report an error), but is needed by the latest version of my spk for SABnzbd, CouchPotato and SickBeard.

The installation process is straight forward, install it and that’s all! It will provide the python executable and libraries for other spk. If your are upgrading from an earlier version of this spk, you shall stop all spk that uses this package (like SAB, SB , and CP), do the upgrade of Python, and then restart the applications.

The package is about 13MB, and the install size 33MB. It supports all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series, except for the DS3611sx. Tested successfully on a DS408 (ppc854x) and a 210j (88f6281) with DSM 3.2 1922. Not tested with DSM 3.1 or older, but it should work.
