This is SABnzbd 0.6.9 for the Synology NAS. It is packed as an spk for easy installation.

Changes:

(0.6.9 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.9.
(0.6.9 1) Add icon for DSM 3.2.
(0.6.8 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.8.
(0.6.7 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.7.
(0.6.6 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.6.
(0.6.5 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.5.
(0.6.4 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.4.
(0.6.2 1) The DSM icon was only visible to the admin of the NAS. Now it shall be visible to every users.
(0.6.2 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.2.
(0.6.1 2) Fix the post processing issue where the python executable was no found. This is done by adding the path to Python in PATH when launching SABnzbd.
(0.6.1 1) Update to SABnzbd 0.6.1. See the release note (not updated) for the details.
(0.6.1 1) Don’t embed Python, use the Python spk instead.
(0.6.1 1) Add the web UI port to the DSM Package Manager interface. It will get updated if it is changed in the application.
(0.5.6 p1) par2 fixes. I had some errors on some valid files, and applied part the patches from Ubuntu. Detailed list on demand.
(0.5.6 p1) Better handling of the web UI address (i.e. port number). The DSM icon will correctly take you to the application, even if you change the port number. The address is no more shown in the Package Management interface, as this information is static.
(0.5.6 p1) Improvements in the start / stop script, and to the installation scripts as well.
(0.5.6 p1) Removal of some unused part (like pgrep).

The package is available here. See the Small SABnzbd spk Manual for installation instructions and more.

This spk requires my Python spk to work correctly. The dependency will be checked at the installation time, and you will be redirected to the download page if it is missing. You must install at least version 2.6.6 4.

Tested with DSM 3.2 1922, on a DS408 and a DS210j. Not tested on DSM 3.1 or older, but it should work. Please report success and failure, as you always do. The upgrade from any previous version of my SABnzbd spk should be seamless.

The package is about 1.8MB, and the install size is 8MB. It will grow to 10MB at the first start (python compiled files), and more due to cache files and logs. All is cleanly removed when the package is removed.

The package is compressed using xz, and supports all the NAS supported by Python spk, i.e. all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series.

Build with SABnzbd 0.6.9 src, coreutils 8.9 src for nice, par2cmdline 0.4 src with some of the Ubuntu patches, and util linux ng 2.18 src for ionice. No changes were made to the source code, only usual build configuration. Specific scripts to the Synology DSM were also added.

Had one small problem after install / setup sabnzbd was unable to write to /volume1/downloads/incomplete when NZB where downloaded. It turned out the incomplete folder was created by a owner not on my system (1032) or something. Change the owner to sabnzbd and everything is working fine.

Hi. Great port. Use it everyday. I do though have one problem. For me the service SABnzbd stops all the time, even when downloading, so I have to either restart my 207+ or login and start it again. I don’t know if it is because it crashes or what ever happens. Have I overlooked something?

Hey, thanks for the update. With DSM 3.2 it seems that Synology’s own SPKs allow some kind of update notification. Are you trying to set it up with your packages too?
It would be great to be able to download updated SPK directly from the package center in DSM…

I installed SABnzbd on my brand new DS411+II today. An easy install and it worked great (although after a while the package had the status “stopped” but it still worked). But after a restart of the Synology, the SABnzbd package wouldn’t start up any more. When I manually tried to start it, I got this error:
“failed to run the package service”
and the package remained “stopped”. In the /var/log/messages I just found this message:
“PkgMan.cgi: pkgtool.cpp:2240 Failed to start package service”

I’ve tried to following combinations:
- DSM version 3.1-1613, Python26 version 2.6.6-3, SABnzbd version 0.6.8-1
- DSM version 3.2-1922, Python26 version 2.6.6-4, SABnzbd version 0.6.9-1
Even a complete re-install of the Synology (which was still empty) didn’t help.

Any ideas?

I’ve tried to find what’s different between install and after reboot. What I did find (with the help of the “Small SABnzbd spk Manual” that after installation I was able to run:
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/SABnzbd.sh console
without any problems, but after reboot I get this error when I do exactly the same:
SABnzbd.sh: eval: line 1: syntax error: unexpected “(”

I’ve compare the .sh from before reboot with the one from after the reboot and they’re exactly the same. So I’m lost …

Ok … apologies for spamming this thread. Feel free to delete my posts, but just learn one thing from my hours of “debugging:
>> DO NOT Use a ( in the password if you want to password protect the SABnzbd GUI … That’s what causes the package to stop functioning after reboot (an unexpected “(” !!!) Took me another reboot, a zombie brain from all the trial&error to finally make my see the ( which I used in the password and combine it with the ( in the error message.

Having a small problem with my setup using DSM 3.2 final, DS1511+, Volume 5 for downalods.
Python and SABNZBD packages installed successfully, and was able to run SAB wizzard.
When starting SAB I get
Incorrect parameter
Cannot create complete_dir folder /volume1/downloads/complete
Checked permissions for SABNZBD account, set to read/write. Manually created folders, and it still won’t let me change the path for complete and incomplete.

About the package center, there is a lot of Synology developers out there (I included) that make Synology Packages (SPKs)
Some of us are starting to gather in order to:
- Make better SPKs
- Provide a unique Package Center Community URL with all SPKs

My personnal wishes (among previous points) are:
- a common Open Source tool to make SPKs so it will garantee users there is no malicious code hidden in the SPKs
- a common Open Source server to host SPKs

Some initiatives are already taken in some community:

I had problems in that I was not able to connect to sabnzbd at my syno (dsm 3.2).
Had this problem before. It may have to do that my syno powers down every night.

After fully reinstalling it and it was running, I manually wanted to edit the configuration file (it did not let me change case of download dir so I wanted to manually edit).
I stopped the package but that did not stop sabnzbd so I did a sabnzbd shutdown.
I changed the configuration file with midnight commander and saved it.
I started (run) the sabnzbd package again hoping that would start the sabnzbd deamon again, however it does not and I cannot to sabnzbd anymore (btw I’m using https on port 9090).
What should I do to get sabnzbd running (as a deamon) again?

Is it possible to have stopping/starting stop and start the sabnzbd deamon as well, it currently does not seems to work that way?

Have SABnzbd 0.6.9, SickBeard 3.0 and CouchPotato 3.0 installed on Synology DS111. Now harddisk does not hibernate anymore. If I shutdown Sabnzbd, then hibernate works fine. Is this a bug in version 0.6.9 or is it the combination with SickBeard and/or CouchPotato? Hibernate worked fine in 0.6.8, but then I was not using SickBeard.

I have only one small problem and that is the path of the download folder.
I have following path
volume1/downloads/incomplete
volume1/downloads/complete

but it seems to be the file is downloaded here instead
/usr/local/var/sabnzbd/volume1/downloads/incomplete
/usr/local/var/sabnzbd/volume1/downloads/complete

any idea?

Can you please please fix the username password issue:
When configuring to use https, username and password to access sabnzbd,
shutting down sabnzbd or restarting the diskstation has the effect that nabnzbd is not accessible again. Removing user and password from the sabnzbd.ini and restarting the diskstation results that sabnzbd is accessible again. This appears to be a bug.
(I don’t know if https has any effect on the issue but that’s how I have configured it.)

Is it possible to create the sabnzbd package in such a way that sabnzbd can be stopped and restarted via the package manager?

Thanks for the tip. Removing user and password from the sabnzbd.ini file and restarting the diskstation did solve the problem. I can access sabnzbd again.
However, I sure do want a username/password on it again.
(Would be great if it could be integrated with the existing diskstation user directory).

dont get it to work, installed fine, but cant access the webpanel. mertys version ran fine. of course i deinstalled it first and installed yours, but no luck. could it be maybe the port? remcos is running on 9200 and yours on 8080. any clues for that problem?

From looking through some of the code, it appears that passwords are randomly generated for the users created by Zeb’s packages.

If we change those user passwords through the DSM admin interface, will that impact the ability of the packages to run (i.e., are the passwords stored anywhere other than /etc/shadow)?

I’ve tried installing the Python 2.6.7 ipkg (which incidentally also installed quite a few dependencies) to see if it would have made any changes, but no luck. I also haven’t been able to get the couchpotato and sickbeard running, so I suspect it’s an issue with the Python SPK.
Does anyone have a very simple program spk to test this? Perhaps just a “hello world” in python?

I’ve configured sab to use https, and I would rather not use http at all. When I log in to the web interface of my synology, the link to sab points at the http endpoint. Can we have the option to point at the https one?

Hi Superzebulon,
Everything works fine but sometime i faced some Timeout error in sabnzb for some nzb and the DL speed drop and became intermitent. An other guys faced the same issue and post on the sabnzb forum and someone answered that sabnzb is not supported by synology :http://forums.sabnzbd.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7301&p=48570&hilit=TimeoutError#p48570

Do other Synology users faced the same issue?

just fyi, sabnzbd is up to 0.6.10 RC1, due to the nature of the ‘hack’ implemented for growl to work this is going to be a special situation where 0.6.10 is not going to be merged to master branch. as the ‘proper’ fix for growl is already part of the 0.7.x trunk and its going to be too much of a pain to backport.
