DSM 3.2

Following the official release of the DSM 3.2, two questions (at least) appear:

My package doesn’t start any more at all / after a reboot, why?
There is no reason to this. The Package Manager was rename Package Center, the user interface was changed, but nothing changes (apparently) under the hood. Packages are started the same way. I just upgraded my two NAS (DS408 and DS210j) without any trouble, finding all my packages up and running after the restart.
Can I install the existing packages if I run DSM 3.2?
Yes, nothing really changes, the format is the same. There are new features, like the icon (easy to do), and it seems the install script can have some sort of user interaction, like on the WordPress package installer. More to explore here.

A new python 2.6 package will follow shortly, with a nice icon. Stay tuned.

A lot changed for developers actually. The possibility to add a custom repository for Packages is awesome. Many more options in the INFO file aslo, including dependencies.

As Synology doesn’t provide any documentation about how to setup a custom package server, I’ll start looking into the protocol by myself. If you have any information about how it works, feel free to share.

Also, I’ve noticed the new icon thing too in the INFO file, how is this “string” generated exactly?

I Also have problems installing Phyton with DSM 3.2.

Installing works but I can’t activate/run the package.

The same on Plex Media Server. I resarted my Synology 710+, but nothing works.

I will not stop my Sabnzb0.6.5-1 now and install 0.6.8-1 before I know for sure it will can be RUN.

Please help

@Diaoul: SPK are compatible, old one can be used in DSM 3.2. And yes, there seems to be a lot of new cool things! For the icon string, it is a PNG 72×72, base64 encoded, but you already find out I guess…

@A.F. v.d. Wulp: My two NAS run fine with DSM 3.2, and a mix of old spk with the new python. I can’t help you more with the information you provide here. Please be more specific, and report on the concerned spk post.

@A.F. v.d. are you sure it doesn’t work? As the documentation says, you won’t be able to actually “start” Python from the Package Manager, it doesn’t work that way, it’s a library other programs use. It runs when they call it, you won’t see it in PM.

I am running DSM 3.2 on an RS811+, DS1515+, and DS1010+, I’ve tested the latest SPK’s from here on all of them and they work fine. You need to elaborate on what “nothing works” means – doesn’t work how? What errors? Logs? Etc.

I am running DSM 3.2 on a DS110j. Tested the latest SPK’s from Python 2.6, Headphone, SABnzbd, Midnight Commander and all of them work fine.

Try right-clicking the icon, open in new window.
Hope it helps. Did it for me on other apps.

Diaoul, the guy at http://www.mertymade.com/syno/ has successfully worked out some or all of the details regarding your own package repository and is hosting his own private package repository which I tried out earlier today and it worked flawlessly.

I suggest you contact him and team up with him on using and documenting the format.
