Headphones 2.0 spk

Here is the long awaited headphones spk. You can download it here.

This spk requires my Python spk to work correctly. The dependency will be checked at the installation time, and you will be redirected to the download page if it is missing. You must install at least version 2.6.6 2.

Tested with DSM 3.1 1748, on a DS408 and a DS210j. Not tested on DSM 3.0 or older, but it should work. Please report success and failure, as you always do.

The package is less than 1MB, and the install size is 4MB. It will grow to 6MB at the first start (python compiled files), and more due to cache files and logs. All is cleanly removed when the package is removed.

The package is compressed using xz, and supports all the NAS supported by Python spk, i.e. all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series.

Build with the pick of the day of Headphones (it will be outdated when you install it, so use the integrated update feature of Headphones and let it restart). No changes were made to the source code. Specific scripts to the Synology DSM were added.

Great work, cheers for that. Just 1 question, it’s using the same port as Sickbeard out of the box? 8081, any chance or anyway of changing that in the package to say 8084 or 8085?

Great tool…
But i can not get the scanning function to work.
Under “Manage” i enter the path “/volume1/Music” anc check “Automatically add new artists” but nothing happens..

Any suggestions, or experiences??

I suggest you don’t install this SPK if you have accentuated music songs or artists or albums as it will result in an awful error message.

@zebulon: IMO, Headphones isn’t ready for public release as it is really buggy and not fitted for NAS poor environment yet

Package installs fine, but it won’t run. I’m running all the zebulon SPKs with no problem.

Hi,
thanks great stuff. Works for most parts like a charm.
One issue I currently have is with the scanning. It seems to stumble over certain files it can not read (i.e. get the following error message: Cannot read file: “/volume1/MyMusic/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Ludwig van Beethoven, composer. Seattle Symphony. Gerard Schwarz, director/Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (Scherzo)/Symphony No. 9 (Scherzo).m4a”
Would be great if that worked or at least if it skipped and did not stop at this…

Noticed a small bug, port change doesn’t effect synology packet-manager.

So when changing port in headphones it stays 8181 in synology packet-manager.

Saw the package yesterday and immediatly had to try.
I still got to work out a few kinks (postprocessing doesn’t seem to work), but many thanks already.

Great work Zebu, my first time using this Headphones got a long way to go to look good though as I see it, but that is not on you. That said got my first “500 Internal Server Error” messages with some cherry stuff. Searched the artist Royksopp, that let me add “Röyksopp” and there it was… artist got added anyway, so not sure what exactly caused it, how it can be fixed and if its critical in any way.

@strangere When you change the port setting in headphones and save it, you have to stop the package and then run it again. Port has changed then.

Thanks for the addon package! I was running Headphones before but this is a nicer way.

Some tips for Syno users:

Make sure to use the auto-update but also make sure to read the patch notes before you do. This is still in a very alpha-ish state, though I’ve found it works very well most of the time.

Headphones does have issues with special characters in album names as some of you have figured out. This well cause it to error out. He’s working on this; just yesterday another patch was released to fix some unicode errors. It’ll get fixed.

Specific to Synology devices: I use post-processing to move the music to my “Automatically Add to iTunes” folder (which is also on my Syno NAS). I found, at least with this package, that the default folder permissions Headphones sets after moving the files – 0755 – are not good enough, because iTunes can’t delete the files after processing them. This will cause all manner of problems in iTunes starting with it will keep re-adding the same music over and over again.

To fix this, you need to edit config.ini and change the folder_permission setting from 0755 to 0777. This fixes it. There’s some other hidden options in there too which may be of use.

Headphones seems really slow down on my system once the DB has grown to a couple of 100′s artists. CPU usage jumps to 100% on a restart and it can take hours to start adding new artists again.

Are there any other users experiencing the same thing?

(I’m already emailing with the author about this)

Apparently this version introduced a syntax error that we cannot recover from in the GUI. Went into the SSH terminal and manually incorporated the changes in this file:

Fortunately, they were only three lines of code to change and this allowed the app to start and get a newer update.

Working on a DS1010+ running DSM 3.1-1748, i do get quite a few 500… errors but nothing a refresh cant fix. Hopefully the glitches can be fixed in future releases. Anyways, love your work. Thanks.

Headphones installed on DS209+II and it’s works GREAT!!!!
Even the post proccesing workes. The only thing that is, that when I try to open the folder is Audio Station, it’s doesn’t show. After I moved it to another folder and back, then it showes in Audio Station.
One other thing. When I add a show in sickbeard and I have already downloaded some episodes, it recgonizes the episodes, but Headphones doens’t do that. Is that a bug of isn’t it suppose to do that?
