Zebulon, i would guess that this will be an tv SERIES only feature (it’s in Sickbeard) but would it also still be possible for you to make a package of this?
Don’t want to nag since you are doing all this in your free time but the whole reason i personally would like Periscope is because of movies and i really don’t want subtitles on Series. The subtitle support in Couchpotato is severely lacking and therefor it would be awesome to have an standalone addon for this on Movies!

Hope this is possible at all, just so much easier to manage it all with these must-have packages.

#1: There is subtitle support built into couchpotato, so I just use that function for the movie subtitles.

I would be nice to have a standalone package for subtitles for both movies and tv shows though.

So how will that work? It will download the episode (by scene name), then find the subs, download the subs and will not rename either one until it’s finished? That would be awesome. Sub searching after renaming is lame and that’s the trouble I’m running into with Periscope. And I just like to rename.

i have one problem with Sickbeard.
My DS211j does not go into Hibernation, because Sickbeard opens /etc/localtime every 10 minutes. What does it mean? And can i change it?

@Amaterasu Turn off hibernation. Hibernation is bad for hard drives. Ask Synology’s forum if you doubt it.

i loaded your fork of Sickbeard with subliminal, but i have one little problem.
I can’t open the subtitles with other users except the user who created the file (in my case the sickbeard user on my NAS)
Can i change anywhere in the config how files are beeing saved? 666 rights should do it i think, but how can i change it?

Do you have to work with terminal commandos to get periscope running with SickBeard?
Or do you create one of your handy spk’s
I’m not handy with terminal commandos etc.

At the moment periscope/subliminal/subtitles are not supportet in the official sickbeard version.
Only the sickbeard fork of Diaoul has subtitle support.
At the moment we are waiting that the code for subtitle support gets pulled by midgetspy the author of sickbeard.
If you want subtitle support replace the sickbeard data with the data you can download at Diaoul’s github site.

I was wondering if you could help me out, I’ve narrowed my hibernation issue down to SickBeard (I know you don’t agree with hibernation, but it’s kind of a must because of how noisy my drive is).

Basically, I’ve noticed it’s calling for localtime in my logs frequently, but more so the log file which sickbeard creates won’t move for me. If I change the dir of it sickbeard just won’t start at all for me so I’m forced to reinstall and start everything again, using the default log dir (i’d rather it be on a memory stick, like I have SAB configured to), I’m on the latest version.

There are several differences on the way Zebulon and I make packages:
* I did all NZB related SPKs before Zebulon, my SPKs were published on the Synology french dedicated forum (http://www.nas-forum.com/forum/index.php/topic/19556-sabnzbd-spk etc.).
* I use a public tool to make SPKs (https://github.com/Diaoul/syno-packager/) so everyone can compile and make its own SPK very easily. This gives the assurance that no code has been modified. Plus, the community could help me improving those SPKs and the syno-packager.
* DSM default port is 5000, +1 for HTTPS : 5001. I customize port numbers a Synology-like way: SABnzbd 9200, SickBeard 9300, CouchPotato 9400, Headphones 9500. If HTTPS just add +1 : SABnzbd HTTPS 9201, etc.
* Changing port number is disencouraged and I try not to put hacky code (I used to though) just to give the user the ability to change a port number.
* Except a few dependencies, there is no interaction between my SPKs. Users shall configure their SPKs themselves. (typing http://localhost:9200 in a form isn’t that hard IMO)
* I use nice and ionice to limit impact on CPU and HDD access. This enables you to do CPU-consuming tasks (watch a HD movie through network) on a small NAS (DS-207+) without freezes due to SABnzbd downloading a lot. The priority will be given to other (and more important) tasks (=> watch the HD movie). I think Zebulon does that too in his latests releases, not sure.
* The final product is (should be) the same though

To sum up I’d say Zebulon makes common user oriented all-in-one SPKs while I make power user oriented SPKs + the open source syno-packager

I use SABnzbd with DS211. This is more user-friendly but NZBget is really lightweight and sometimes faster.
NZBget comes with a default web interface. The SPK requires to have web station activated to work properly (like Synology’s PhpMyAdmin SPK)

Is there anyone else here, who get’s file permission errors? I get these errors:
2011-08-31 10:24:06.535248 POSTPROCESSER :: Failed to set permission for to 666.

It used to work fine but lately I seem to get these errors. Anyone have the solution to fix this?

First off, Thank you so much for all these things. I’m a bit of a noob and have been hacking my way through all this stuff by myself for a few months now and installing and setting up these packages was one of the most painless process I’ve attempted. Setting up SABnzbd and Sickbeard was sooo easy and works so wonderfully, that I installed CouchPotato and Headphones just to try them out (I usually try to avoid (just trying things out). So thank you thank you thank you, if you have a paypal link, I’d love to buy you a cup of coffee.

Second, I would just like to put my vote in for a standalone SPK for periscope. As stated earlier, I’m a bit of a noob, but something that terrifies me is not having forced subtitles for non-English speaking parts of movies (such as when O-ren Ishi is speaking Japanese during Kill Bill). I’m not sure periscope would help with that but I may be able to re-encode things if I had the right subtitle track. Either way, sounds like a great program that I am too dumb to figure out by myself.

P.S. Also incredibly jealous of you Europeans. I have the fastest connection of anyone i know and I tap out dl-ing at like 1.7mbps. I’m sure its related, but I experienced no drop off in speed when switching SABnzbd from my HTPC to my Synology.
