Transmission 2.30b1 spk

Transmission 2.30b1 was release a few days ago. For the adventurous is now ready to be loaded in your favorite NAS. It can be downloaded here. See the official change log for what’s new in this beta.

Tested with DSM 3.0, on a DS408 and a DS210j. Not tested on DSM 3.1, but it should work. Please report success and failure, as you always do.

The package is about 5.7MB, and the install size less than 7MB. The package is compressed using xz, and that only the binaries for the underlying architecture are extracted and actually installed on the NAS. It supports all the NAS from the x07 to x11 series.

Build with transmission 2.30b1 and a slight fix (see ticket 4138), openssl 1.0.0c, libevent 2.0.10, curl 7.21.3 and zlib 1.2.5. No changes were made to the source code, only usual build configuration. Specific scripts to the Synology DSM were also added.

syno ds209 with dsm 3.1-1605
after update from 2.22, error with no torrentdata in webui, so i cant restart any torrent.
upload the torrentfile over trans. remote gui end with failer in.jsonfile, ia64 blabla.
now back to 2.22, and all is fine

Following the installation guide, the service is stopped silently a few seconds after it is started, maybe a minute. I can access the web service alright during the uptime.

syno ds111 dsm 3.0
after upgrade from 2.22 webui works fine, remote gui not working at all.
seems that cpu usage is lower than 2.22

@axt : I don’t really understand you issue, can you be more precise?

@greubeuld : according to http://forum.synology.com/wiki/index.php/What_kind_of_CPU_does_my_NAS_have, your NAS has 64MB of RAM. My DS408, which uses the same processor as the DS209j uses about 30MB of RAM for transmission only. Maybe you could check the memory usage on your NAS through the DSM interface.

@papka__ : which remote gui are you using? I personally use Transmission Remote (http://code.google.com/p/transmission-remote-dotnet/) and everything is working well with my DS210j / DSM 3.0 1337.

@zebulon: Memory usage doesn’t seem to spike and stays in the 45-50% range.

Upgraded this morning and it seems to be running fine on a DS109+ with the latest 3.1 firmware.

All builds released after 2.13 did crash quite fast so this is a nice improvement. UDP tracker support is great to have as it was a really needed feature.

@greubeuld and ZeusII : You can also check if there is any relevant message in /var/log/messages to explain why transmission terminated. If you have gdb (from ipkg) installed, I can provide you unstripped binaries to test with and try to find out the issue. Just let me know.

@papka__ : it seems your issue may be related to http://code.google.com/p/transmisson-remote-gui/issues/detail?id=394.

I don’t have gdb installed, nor do I have the skill to debug the program. Sorry.

All is fine with upload, but very wrong with download. Try to download 1 torrent. Huge CPU load and bad speed (down 500KB/s). After downgrade to 2.13 – all is fine with the same torrent (down 5.5MB/s).

I had trouble with folder error. Client was starting then stopped after 1-2 megs telling me i couldnt write data. I created the “download” and “incoming” folders myself and “Voilà!”

Application works like a charm on my DS411J running DSM3.1!

As far as I know, this isn’t possible for web UI. What you can do about this is to create a ticket for this option so that someone can build it in (www.transmissionbt.com)

Hello. Thanks for the package. Very useful.

I’ve had a few problems with the web desktop icon, as regular users could not see it. To solve this, I had to retype the “allUsers” attribute, with the correct casing, in the “config” JSON file.
